The Handwashing Initiative
The Healthy Hands & Hygiene Hand-washing Initiative educates, demonstrates and allows reciprocation of an effective hand-washing technique. Absenteeism of school aged children and staff related to infectious and communicable diseases are towering. Infectious and communicable diseases are disorders caused by organisms such as bacteria, viruses, fungi or parasites that can be spread from one person to another through contact with body fluids, through coughing and sneezing or via a vector such as a mosquito. Some of the most common illnesses in school aged children related to these diseases are: chickenpox, coughs, colds, ear infections, diarrhea, vomiting, fever, impetigo, conjunctivitis (pink eye), ringworm, scabies, strep throat, and other strep and staph infections. Healthy Hands & Hygiene will teach this handwashing procedure using words, pictures and other aids that are congruent to each specific age group.
The Hype about Hygiene
The Hype about Hygiene Program is geared towards grades 3 and up. This program will inform about the importance of daily hygiene and how to decrease the risk of infectious/communicable and sexually transmitted diseases. Each graduate of the program will receive trial sized toiletries (deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush, mouthwash, comb/brush, a bar of soap, and lotion) to keep on person or in lockers for use when away from home.
